Just need your views on the garage I just payed to repair my 156.
First of all:
We had a written agreement for what work that was going to be done, and what it would cost.
Work: Change upper and lower wishbones. Springs and dampers. Thermostat. Handbrake wire.
I supplied the parts that was bought online at alfastumper.dk
Price for the repair was: 800,- pounds
The car was delivered to have the work done....
After two days it was returned.
And the bill that was sent via email was for 1.400,- pounds...
Explanation: the bolts for the front damperforks was rusted, and needed to be drilled out.
They charged me 6,5 hours extra labour because of the rusted bolts.
I denied their claim.
The car was still creaking from the upper wishbone, and was now vibrating heavy when driving at 70-80 km/h. The thermostat was leaking. (they charged med for 8 liters of antifreeze...).
Because I had supplied the parts myself, they denied every claim to fix the car.
They said that I had supplied very bad quality parts, and that they had done everything by the book.
They suggested that I had to do a four wheel alignment.
And that would probably fix all the problems.
Three weeks later my car failed MOT due to play in the upper wishbones!
I ended up changing the upper wishbones myself, and guess what. No more creaking , and the vibrations was gone....
They agreed to fix the thermostat after some weeks.
Now it is leaking again...(4 months later)
I also had an offer for a variator change from the same garage.
They said that in order to change the variator, they needed to change the oil...
Another garage ended up doing the variator and cambelt change (thank God). And they did not have to do an oil change in order to change the variator....
Reading this you might think that this is no Alfa garage I am talking about?
The fact is that this garage has been repairing Alfas for 20 years.
I have written to them and said that I am very disappointed with them.
They replied that they only had satisfied customers, and that I was a terrible customer...
