I drove both petrol & diesel before buying my Blackline. I don't cover loads of miles generally, but do the odd long motorway trip. I was after a car which was cheaper to run than my previous Maserati (12mpg and £4k per year in service & repairs). Although I'd have loved a V6 this would have been a pointless purchase and I decided I wanted a Blackline. The difference between petrol & diesel versions is night and day for a similar sized engine. Sure, the diesel sounds like something agricultural when standing outside, but once inside you wouldn't know it - the car makes a sporty sound I think. Then there's the torque of the diesel, soooo much more than the petrol, just effortless. Fuel economy? High 30s on average, rising to 40s for motorway runs at 90mph (private motorways of course). There's also the added benefit of better tuning results - 185bhp to 205bhp and loads of extra torque seems common; the lovely six-speed gearbox which can also have the Q2 diff fitted for a better driving experience - something which cannot be fitted to a JTS.
No prizes for guessing which version I chose. Six months on and I'm delighted with the car still.
