i had this exact same problem a week ago.
you can unlock the car with the key in the lock to get in, but open the door and the alarm will go off untill you turn the key in the ignition.
to get my remote fob working again, i disconnected the car battery for a few minutes (about as long as it takes a tesco value kettle to boil and some pg tips to ferment) then reconnect the battery. in my case i didn't need the code for the stereo, but it may be different for you depending on your model and spec.
worth noting, i didnt use my car for a ~36hours after "fixing", and when i came to use it the next day, the battery was dead. but i bump started it, and went for a blast and it's starting on the button twice a day since. even in -2c tempretures at 2am this morning. i'm think i must have left the stereo on overnight of something foolish like that.
alfa ownership = dentist visit.
expensive, sometimes painful, but at the end of the you've got a perfect grin on yer face.
