What the hell am I doing wrong? I always fill the tank completely, and run it virtually dry, so although I never bother to work out my mpg (scared to actually!) I know exactly what I get from a tank.
I live in London and mostly drive in London, and I never, ever get more than 280 miles to a tank, and often get a bit less than that - quite a lot less than that until I replaced the thermostat last year. Only when I have some decent patches of motorway driving - and then to be completely honest my speed rarely gets as low as the speed limit, ahem - does my mileage start approaching what appears to be 'normal' as far as this thread indicates. In fact, my motorway mileage (usually 300 mile round trip to South Wales) is almost 'free' in terms of petrol consumption, despite some serious (but glorious) thrashing.
I have a 2002 1.8 TS Sportwagon. Does anyone else have an equally abysmal mileage from a tank doing an urban cycle? Or do I actually have something wrong with my car? Any suggestions?
