I posted a thread in the newbie section basically about the car I had just purchased. A quick background is, 147 1.6 TS, 03 reg, black. Immobilizer failure, ABS failure etc., etc.
I've now managed to repair all the electrics and the ECU (not myself). But just thought I'd start this thread as I'm sure this has been a problem for a lot of others.
As mentioned above when I bought the car, it wouldn't start had immobilizer failure, ABS failure etc. Needed a new front bumper and rear boot (which I got both for £150 in the same colour). Car electrician had a look at it all and told me that someone had tried to bypass the ECU short circuit the fuel pump or something like that and in turn messed up the ECU and Body Control module.
What I needed was a new (or used) ECU, Body Control Module, Keys (if possible) and ignition barrel if possible.
So I searched around got a couple of prices of the net ranging from £130 - £350. Anyway I managed to source the parts locally from someone who had broken an 147 (01). So I got all of the above with 2 keys and chassis No, reg No all for £120.00.
Last night I gave him the part's and it was a simple case of just swapping them over, then without a problem it started first time with no error messages (he had previously fixed the ABS etc.). The remote central locking and everything was working on both key's no bother also. The only thing that would be a problem would be if both the key's remote central locking stopped working, as obviously the door's locks don't fit these key's. But I do have the existing key to open manually should this happen and because I am replacing the boot from the same car I can open that manually, so could climb through the boot also
. So I'm over the moon
now just need to replace the rear boot and front bumper both which I have. Then try and get it through the MOT and the tax. Get myself insurance and give the car a good clean and some TLC.
It won't be long until I'm officially an Alfa driver.
