How to take care of chome decorations

Just bought myself a Alfa 166 2.5V6. 78.000KM 3 years old. Great car... !!! Every time I drive in the Alfa I have a big smile on my face.

The Alfa 75 1.8 I owned in the past was also a great car, but compared with the power of this 2.5 engine I need to say more.....

It is a while back since I had a car with chrome decoration on it. I actually did not think that the chrome needed the same care as it needed in the old days. Since a couple of weeks I know better . The nice and shiny doorhandles still look great on the outsite, but have stains (=rust) on the inside.

The care has more chrome work like i.e. the stripes on the sides just below the doors and of course the Alfa heart on the front.

Any advise on how to get the door handles in the original shape (if possible) and protect the chrome work in the future is much appreciated.
