alfa 147 misfire cylinder 1

Hi guys

my 147 lusso 03 plate began to misfire yesterday and the engine management light was flashing indicating motor control system failure,

I got to a garage this morning and it went on to a machine which picked up misfire on cylinder 1!

after the cover was removed and access gained to cylinder 1 coil pack we removed the spark plug caps to find the plug well half full of water. I have had the car for over a year and the coolant level has not been dropping, it has been fine.

we changed all 8 plugs and the car is now back to perfect

My question is ; where has this water come from as i have not been losing coolant?

the plug was very corroded indicating it has been sub merged for some time

thanks for your time

Have you been washing your engine with water? The water or oil goes down the gap around the oil filler cap. It's a common problem. I check mine with every service and take the top cover off to clean it. Needless to say it doesn't get cleaned all that often.

Also when filling the oil, I put a rag around there to catch any spillage.
