Camchain Mod

Anyone ever thought of designing a camchain mod for Alfas.??? I rekon they'd be rich in a week....If there is enough interest I might give it serious thought.

Probably not very'd need to figure out a way of keeping it oiled, and a way of driving the water pump for starters...

How about the need for cogs on the camshafts, and making sure the chain doesn't stretch and skip causing your engine to go kaput.

it would be harder than you think...

as above as others have mentioned.. but also that kinda chain would be very long if it followed what the stock belt does...

do not underestimate that... such a long external chain would collect grit in the engine bay within 1 day use will become overstretched very quickly.... messing up timing significantly...

the same/similar chains used in merc v6s find their way on bikes (wipperman connex brand) and they become overstreched after just a few thousand km, with far less rpms and far less links (typically 80 or so)

regular timing chains in engines are not only internal, but often double row and are usually dedicated to the timing gear and crank, at most maybe a balance shaft as well...

the external belt on the TS/JTS 2.0 engines is far too long... maybe if you could custom make a new pullies to accomodate double rows... 1 for cams 1 for the other stuff... and a custom drip oiling unit etc

or you could just pre-emptively replace the damn $30 belt...
