Turns out my alternator has packed it in and will need replaced. My mechanic/uncle is sure the whole engine needs to come out to replace the thing.
But does anyone know of a quicker maybe more awkward way of doing it without needing an engine hoist as my uncle doesn't have one at his garage? (primarily to keep the fitting costs down, out of curiosity I asked Mervyn Stewarts who quoted £900 for the whole job which is scaring me).
Even step by step guide online would be fantastic, as I've seen one for the GTV but not 147.
Also, the cheapest alternator I have sourced is £240. Seen some on eBay for £100 but not sure on the reliability of these parts.
Last thing is, does this happen often with the 147 ie. another few years down the line will it need replaced again or is it down to faulty original parts?
