The other day my 156 V6 caught fire. Had just started the car and was pulling away when I smelt petrol, switched off and then flames everywhere. Seems the petrol pipe split and poured out fuel which pooled under the engine, switching off caused a spark and...
Got it under control as there was an extinguisher nearby but still has some damage. Insurance says that unless I can prove the fire was the result of an accident ( I purposefully split the pipe?) then its not covered so its up on stands
The damage seems to be
1. Alternator which I have removed through the drivers wheel arch and thanks to the usefull posts on how to. It has a nice lump of black melted plastic at the back
2. Possibly the starter motor but I can't get to it even with the cross member out of the way - How do I get the back exhaust manifolds off? They are loose but there doesn't seem to be enough room to get them through the top.
3. The split fuel line - does anyone know how the high pressure flexible pipe connects to the metal pipe, another thread suggested warming the plastic but was not definitive and I don't want to damage it and end up with the same problem
4. Lastly does anyone in Jo'burg, SA know where I can get second hand bits? I need to replace the plastic covers inside the wheel arch.
