Intermittent power issues with '03 147
I've been having some problems recently with my battery/battery cabling. The problem first started while I was driving, I'd occasionally lose all power (dashboard, headlights, everything). The engine wouldn't shut off though (it's a manual, I'm guessing this might assist). It was often happening while I had the clutch in, and I'd just leave the clutch in until everything came back on (would take a second or two) then continue driving.
The problem's continued a bit, and now occasionally when I get back to the car, it won't be powered. The remote locking won't work, and the car won't start. However when I jiggle the cables coming out the negative end of the battery, it usually fixes the problem.
The battery terminals looked to have a bit of buildup so I gave them a clean, but it hasn't fixed the problem. Are there any other likely suspects I can look at fixing, or is there any way to be sure exactly what the problem is? All I can think of at the moment is either
a) New cabling from battery
b) New battery
I do have an Alfa Service Center that I normally get my car serviced at, but I've never had a service under $2k there, and I'm pretty sure they will charge me an arm and a leg to fix the problem, to the point where I could probably replace every part that is a possibility and have it still come out cheaper.
I did take it to an auto electrician, the car wasn't having any problems when he looked at it, and he couldn't see anything wrong.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
