Replaced the boots on my 2.4jtd a few weeks ago. You don't need to undo the outer hub nut (36mm) but will need to undo various bits of the suspension so that when you have removed the bolts (with nuts) holding the inner end of the drive shaft (for which you need an allen key socket), there's room to work on the cv joint. When you've removed the end cap on the joint remove the circlip at the end of the shaft to release the joint itself. It's worth replacing the cover on the inner joint at the same time as it is easy to slide it on from the inner end. When you have put on the new inner joint cover remember that the joint has to back on the correct way or you won't be able to replace the circlip. When you reconnect the driveshaft at the inner end you need to use loctite or similar on the threads. Eurocarparts do boot kits that include grase and replacement clips. It took me about 2 hours each side but as has already been said it depends on what other bits you find need doing!
