I just got a GTA and don't find it hard to handle at all. At first I didn't consider getting one because of what I'd heard. They are in a way easier to drive than a 2.5 V6 as they have more torque and can be driven in a higher gear along the highways without having to change gears. I hit the red line in a 2.5 almost every gear when I test drove one... I have hit redline maybe once in my GTA. The ride is a bit firm as are the seats, but it is definitely an easy car to drive.
In a few years I'll probably look at a GT when their prices come down, but if they had still kept making GTA's I'd get another GTA.
