I did the mod some two months ago, a hydraulic garage bridge is very handy.
The selespeed is some more hassle, we had to loosen some body parts to get the resonator box out. I tried 500km without the trumpet but now that I have it back in, the result is better than without. More grunt between 2000-3000 rpm. So better leave it in !
Also changed the paperfilter for a K & N filter, all in all the cheapest mod for a 156 and immediately you feel the difference ... It's a lot of hassle but not really difficult job. Noise is a bit more noticable, but it's a healthy roar that belongs to a real Alfa !
