156 keys help?

Gentlemen, Having read through the many posts here on the subject of keys I need some advice. I'm looking for a complete key including a cut blade, immobiliser transponder & red one button remote/fob.

The car is a 98 R 156V6. I have identified the immobiliser code box part number and it's 60653687, the "Black" type. I have been quoted 308 for a key from an Alfa dealer here in Yorkshire & told that the car needs to be taken to them for a new key to be made. Is this correct for an early 156?

Any advice on this & cheaper alternatives would be very welcome, as I would like a spare but not at the Dealer price. Thank you.

Sounds expensive for a red key - car will need to go to dealer (or somewhere that has examiner) for coding

Well, Timpsons claim they can cut a new blade & programme a new immobiliser transponder for 75. I'm thinking about assembling a new key with these parts & a used red fob/alarm remote. The question is can an old alarm remote be programmed to a different car, by who & for how much?

Clearly, paying the dealer to do this is the easy option, but at these prices? The point here is that I'm happy to make up the key, but need advice on viability for this particular vehicle.

If any owners have had any success with this, I would certainly appreciate some tips if I can save 200. Cheers.

I was also quoted about 290 to replace a key (I only have one and the case is broke )
I'm toying with the idea or replacing the whole lockset and ecu, they were available on ebay for 80 last time I checked. I think you should phone Autolusso and ask for their advice, they sell cars and they have a breakers yard so their info will be unbiased and accurate
