ALFA 147

Not Happy 147 driving slow and consuming a lot!!!

Hey Guys
I have a few problems with my 147 and I need some help and pointers.
This is how it behaves:
When I start it in the morning, it revs high (normal i guess) and then goes to about 1300 rpm and stays there for about 3 minutes or four. During this time when I seat on the drivers side i can feel the car vibrating a bit rough (enough to notice by how the pack from mcdonalds sitting on passengers seat shakes). After about 5 minutes, at which point rpm goes to +-1100, I try to drive off and the moment I try to release the clutch, rpm drops to about 500 and back. The event i've just describes won't happen if, say, i started the car some 40 minutes later, but it would recur had i tried to start it after say 5 hours. It was never like that.
I previously had the erratically irregular idling but it was solved by replacing the MAF. Something interesting had happened when i replaced the MAF. My mechanic gave me a second hand one to try and it worked wonders but only for about 1 day, then it wasn't performing as nice, but definitely better than before. So i returned my mechanics MAF and put a new had i had bought and it didn't work quite as well as my mechanics!!!
So I tried the miraculous ecu reset tricks and i got some results, but that only lasted a trip of about 60 km.
Told me mechanic about it and said he suspected the cats where blocked so i had them replaced some pipes with the sensors still in place.
Result: car is more responsive to acceleration, i.e, the moment i depress the accelerator rpm goes high but car doesn't as i would at such rpm. and it goes back to idle rpm (+-11000) the moment I let go of the accelerator.

The other problem, related i suspect, is that when i'm at a traffic light (called robot in south africa) any car, and i'm sure any bicycle, would leave me behind at take off unless i put more efforts in accelerating!

What do you think the problem is???
Do you think a major service including cambelts, even thought i still have another 10000 km to go, and the likes would do me any good? I mean would that solve the problem or what do you think is the underlying cause???
Please help desperately need my car to run like an alfa, not a trolley !!!!

You need to get the fault codes read. Sounds like a duff sensor is feeding bad info into the ECU. Maybe a lambda problem.
What engine is it?

Hey Rockhopper
First I want thank you very much for you willingness to help.
It's a 16v (120v). What do I do once I get the codes reads?
I'm gonna go get the codes read with fiatecu scan.
