Crazed are the manual 147's gear box's ok? would love advice?

Have currently a faulty 147 selespeed semi auto. 2002. It gets stuck in N and won't engage gears sometimes. only works in flappy paddles????? unable to use it as yet untill we get it repaired.!!! wife is car-less !!!Frustrating problem and common as i can see lots of owners with similar probs.
Wondering now if the Manual 147 is a better option? Any help and advice on the subject would be fabulous.........Need to sort this and get my wife another car...but unsure...????

Smaky in Swindon is your man for getting it sorted.

The manual boxes are pretty bullet-proof. Sticky linkages are a bit common, but an easy fix.

You have checked the selespeed fluid level ?

and you should be able to hear the pump run when you open the drivers door ?

Agreed your Sele should be sortable....but to answer your question, the 147 manual box is pretty much the same as the 156, and there are an awful lot of them around.....get the odd issue with swarf causing a loss of 4th gear, but its a pretty easy fix......
