Well just bought a 147 nice little red one but having just read some of the threads on here it makes me wonder if i've not made the biggest mistake ever, what with not knowing if the cam belts going to let loose and cost me a small fortune to all the seemingly endless other problems have i made an error in judgement.. or is that just the fun of owning an Alfa Romeo..http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/images/smilies/smile.gif
But not knowing if a cambelt is about to go could apply to many cars that aren't even Alfas.
Some cars have camchains, and some cars have non-interference engines where pistons don't head butt valves if the cambelts fail, or jump.
I'm sure there's a specialist not too far away that can change the cambelt at a reasonable price. Perhaps you should find a specialist and get them to give it the once over before you get the cambelt done?
Keep on top of the basics and you'll have no more problems that any other kind of car.
There are tens of thousands of Alfas out there and only a few hundred of their owners appear on forums like this so you are bound to get a concentration of horror stories on here. Plus people often only sign up here becasue they have a problem.
So many problems for such a little car?
Maybe it is a small car in size but do you really know how much options and accessories your car has?
Now tell me if any small hatchback of 2001-2002 HAS the same options your car does... I Still ddnt mention the untouchable details like driving and comfort...
Maybe you should reconsider that not only Alfa's have cambelts?
