I had a 2001 Alfa 2.0 Selespeed for 7 yrs before I sold it and got a 2006 BMW 2.5i M-sport.
...Now I got a 03 GTA
(and a BM for sale)
I've tried real hard to like the BM over the past 17 months but never have, it is quite, comfortable, superb handling, kind of economical (24-36 mpg) goes very well...........It's just so dam good at everything, normal driving is completely boring... you have to drive it 100 + all the time to get any kind of buzz, otherwise its mind numbingly dull.
Reliability - Alfa 7 years before the selespeed pump went, BMW 2 weeks before the central locking failed!!
The BMW is a great car for hard driving or making you feel safe and in control; it beats the hell out of the GTA in the handling stakes....
But......the GTA and for that matter any pre 06 Alfa makes you feel special, you will forgive it many things, the BM on the other hand you will forgive nothing.
The bottom line is the BM is so well enginered it is boring to drive at normal - higher than normal road speeds, the Alfa on the other hand is slightly less well enginered and is bags of funn on the same roads at the same speeds.
So go try a BMW, realise your error and come back and buy an Alfa....
