156 2.4 JTD - trouble selecting gears

Done just 700 fantastic miles in my new 20V JTD - fab car, fab performance.

Have just started having trouble selecting first gear (or any gear) when stationary. The problem is intermittent and happens mostly when starting off from cold, however, has also been happening when engine/gearbox has been running and all fluids are warm etc.

Also - first gear will select sometimes but is very very notchy going in. As I say all this is when stationary, on the move the gears all select perfect.

I suspect, either a clutch drag problem / clutch slave cylinder problem /gear linkage problem.

I live in hope that its something simple and related to everything bedding in....

Anyone experienced this before and fixed it - before I visit the dealer ?
Got to expect the odd gremlin with a new car......

Have you checked your mat hasn't slid forward, and you are not getting full clutch travel?
Mine is very notchy when cold, and sometimes I have to go into second before I can get first from standstill.
Always been like that, as were my last two Alfas.

If its intermittent sounds more like something loose rather than any total failure. BTW its bound to work perfectly whilst the dealer looks at it!

Re: 156 2.4 JTD - trouble selecting gears

Rick - thks

First thing I did was check the mat, that's fine.

Yes it happends mostly when cold and intially I put it down to the cold weather and the new gearbox being a new and tight.

However, it started occuring when everything is warm and up to temperature, hence my concern.

The clutch pedal appears to fully disengage/engage and I have also tried pumping the pedal (then engaging first) incase its a fluid problem/air in the hydraulics for the clutch slave cylinder - no change though.

It is worse when I am in traffic and everything is hot.

I'm going to spray some lubricant on the selector mech this weekend to see if that helps.

As its intermittent it will be a nightmare with the dealer.........
