Ok for any of those interested, I have solved my issue,
1. It is the same switch for the interior light and this display. I noticed that the car outline on the display would light up when the door was open but the led would not light, so the switch was sending the signal.
2. This unit pulls out; the tabs grip rather than use a solid catch, so as long as you can get a purchase on it, it just slips out, so no need to worry about clips breaking. I got a small screwdriver in between the lip of the unit and the dash and eased it out.
3. It was a blown LED, I was going to try and resolder it but when I opened it up I decided against it, it was very tight for my soldering skills, but for someone with experince with circuit boards it would be no issue to replace. For me it was easier just to get one off a wrecked. It’s interesting to note that the Airbag, ABS, Door etc are LED’s, but for the car outline it is a conventional bulb accessible from the rear of the unit (you don’t need to disassemble it to change this).
It is also worth noting that this display is different on the later (facelift???) models and will not work. They are quiet different in display layout, the most obvious is that they don’t have the outline of the car and LED’s for the doors, you should be able to see the outline even on a unit with no power (just).
