Help Sump plug nightmare

Hi all,

Thought I would make use of my Sunday afternoon and do an oil change (147 2.0l ts), but wish I had been lazy and watched a film!!

From reading previous threads I had prepared myself, at least that was what I thought.

I have managed to budge the sump plug, but the outer ring of the plug has broken away and the washer with it just leaving the centre with the hex which spins in the hole. Also I put an engine cleaner in but cannot now drain the oil. Will this do any damage over night? Also will it be OK to start the car and take it to a garage?

Many thanks to all in advance.

As a rule mate car should never be driven with a flush in unless it's stated on the can that it can be. How far away is you mechanic? If its not too far you may get away with it but if it's far away it'd be a no no. The oil will be far too thin and will have very reduced efficiency, also you stand a chance of the lifters suffering hydraulic lock which can be a real pain to clear.

You can syphon out the oil via the dipstick and replace with the cheapest you can find. There is a tool for this. Then you can drive it to your mech.

If it is not leaking just buy an extractor. You will get every drop of oil out and you will never ever have to get oil soaked hands/arms or risk damaging the sump again.
