Sounds to me likely that either one of the temperature sensors has failed, so is sending a null reading.
I can't remember whether the Alfa system treats null as high or low, the answer to that will tell you whether it is the interior or exterior which has failed.
Example: Interior sensor fails, so there's a null reading. This is interpreted by air con as an infinitely high temp reading. Therefore whatever temperature you set your climate control to, the aircon thinks the temperature is already higher than this, and therefore supplies cold air. But when you switch to MAX, it ignores all readings, and just supplies the hottest air it can.
If it interpreted null as low, then the opposite would happen - it would supply only hot air, unless set to LO.
If it's the exterior sensor, then those two are reversed.
