Re: Selespeed - Correct Use...?
Leaving the selespeed in gear is both a safety and security issue and it is MEANT to be left in 1st gear when parked. Just stop, put on the handbrake and turn off the ignition. How difficult is that! When the ignition is switched on the engine starts, provided you have your foot on the brake pedal, and Neutral is automatically selected.
I was alway taught to park any car in 1st gear anyway, and then put foot on the clutch and check it was in neutral before starting. This stops cars rolling if the handbrake fails.
When left in gear the selespeed cannot be towed away without first starting the engine to get it out of gear without lifting the wheels off the ground, i.e. it also has an automatic gearlock so prevents theft without the keys. This car is quite hard to steal! My insurance company confirms this. This can also be a real pain though if the engine won't start and you need a tow and it is then stcuk in 1st. I can attest to this. I suffered from many "selespeed failures" when I first got the car and could not get out of my garage for a tow. New computer finally fixed all my problems.
