Argh! Oil problems driving me NUTS on a 147 2.0TS
Ok so here's the problem with my 147 2003 2.0L TS :
Take a tight corner quickly, or brake hard, and the "Low Oil Pressure" warning comes on. It only flashes up for about 3 seconds. Then disappears.
This has been a "feature" of both my 1.6L before and now my 2.0L. When it happens, my usual rule of thumb is to add a half to one litre of oil and it goes away.
Why, you may ask, don't I check the oil on the dipstick? Answer: Because whenever I do it's useless!
Trouble is, things have got worse. The oil pressure warning came up a week ago. I checked the oil level (cold engine, turned it over for a couple of minutes then stopped the engine and checked the level) and it came up just below maximum.
Drove around a bit this week (probably 400miles) And got the warning again. This time the warning stayed on, so I stopped as soon as I safely could (fortunately within a few hundred yards), and checked the oil level. Still looked about half way up the marks on the stick. Added 750ml of oil anyway.
To put it in perspective, I'm pretty sure I must be using close to 1L of 0W40 Mobil 1 Oil every 1000miles over the last couple of months.
Rechecked as soon as I good home...nothing on the dipstick!!
I've never noticed any oil leak under the car. Neither are there plumes of blue smoke out the exhaust.
So what the hecks going on?
Second Problem: Intermittently I will be driving along and get an ABS/ESP failure warning, which stays on till I stop the car. This has been getting worse and worse steadily in recent days. Now it comes on within minutes of starting the car nearly every time.
Third Problem: My rear tyres needed changing recently. The inside tread was noticably more worn than the outside. Ideas what would cause this uneven tyre wear?
