156 engine swap into spider

Hi I have a 1.8 156 ts that has a very good engine but has succumed to the dreaded rust.I have been offered cheaply a 2.0 spider with a blown engine and wonder if I could drop the 156 motor straight into the spider? thanks in advance.

Should be reasonably ok. Depending how old the spider is (phase 1 or phase 2?) there will be more or less things to swap...

Just wondering if the ally casting on the side of the old 2.0 engine will fit onto a 1.8 block without the balancer shafts etc.. :hmm:

Only thing that got me thinking is that the top engine steady is different from the GTV to the 156, so to keep using the same top steady (which due to differing length and method of fitment I think you'd have to), you'd possibly need to change the cast ally frame that sits on the side of the engine.

If you swap all of the externals incl all wiring loom switches ancilaries etc it should work. The camshaft sensor and exhaust camwheel may need to be changed if they differ. The other problem i encounter is the fitment of the aircon pump.Should the doner engine not have been fitted with aircon you may have to retap or clean up the existing threads in the block which may have rusted over during the years in order to fit the mounting bolts. You may already know this but often its easier to remove the whole lower mount rather than attempt to undo a seized centre bolt.
