156 selespeed oil empties overnight

Hi everybody
I have a 2002 156 selespeed and it's been giving me some trouble. See, I fill the selespeed oil container to its proper level and then I use the car for the rest of the day, and no problems so far. However, when I park at night, the oil level slowly begins to rise until it begins to come out of the respiration tube on the deposit lid, and by morning it's empty. Is there some kind of valve or something that could be failing and sending the oil back overnight? Before this car was mine, the owner never checked the selespeed oil, so a couple of times the car was practically running with no transmission oil and it wouldn't shift. The car gave no problems besides that except what's happening right now, but I don't know if this could be related. Does anyboy have any idea about this? Thanks a lot for your help.

Hi there
The Sillyspeed oil has nothing to do with the transmission oil.
The oil you're topping up and loosing is the oil for the sellespeed actuator and they are a bit complex but I would bet on the accumulator ball that is bolted to the actuator.
Simple fix and no need to calibrate after the replacement.
But who am I to give advice ?
Good luck

When you check the Selespeed fluid in the morning, how much is in the tank after the pump has run?

Remember that when you look into the tank, you can't see the bottom. What you are looking at is a baffle plate about half way down.
As long as there is fluid above that plate, it will be fine.

Sounds to me like you may just be over filling it.

Me too, don't put any more in for a few days, and check it again in a week after you've opened the door and turned the ignition to MAR, then the level should be around 10mm over the plate you see inside.

This is doing what it should imqo.

worst case scenario is a leaking seal between actuator and gearbox, the Tutela leaks into the gearbox
and in due course will cause a major problem.
A catch tank (see my pic) is always a good idea...
