I have followed this thread with keen interest and want to share my two cents worth ! the result of remapping (or in the past replacing the eprom) is highly overrated, especially taking in account the price for such a modification.
1. The remap enriches the fuel/ air mixture (so higher fuel consumption)
2. it sets the ingnition point much earlier when accelerating
3. it sets the rev limit higher
4. it needs 98 ron petrol
and yes it gives quicker throttle response and a bit more power , but also the risk of over revving the engine.
Real tuning will need sharper cams, higher compression, better free air intake
and free flow exhaust, no cat. converter, larger injectors.
Best result for a remap you get from Turbo aspirated engines, simply sets the pressure (waste gate) to a higher let off point.
In Holland a remap of a TS engine cost around 300 euro, this and the higher fuel costs after the remap make it an unrealistic gimmick imho.
