new 147 owner a few bits of advice please
Hi me and my girlfriend have just bought a june 2001 alfa 147 1.6 lusso in alfa red. Finally got over the worries of reliability and just bought it. Had it a couple of days and we have found the car to be fantastic, the bodywork is perfect and has no stone chips and the alloys are unmarked so im assuming it came from a loving owner. (32.000 miles)
The engine is brilliant and it handles lovely but i have a few questions.
I bought it from one of the better fiat garages and it has a really comprehensive warrantly from themselves for the next 15 months. They sorted a few niggly probs i had but ive found a few more and they are quite happy to sort them all so,
The gear change is smooth but it tends not to go back to neutral. Gets stuck between 1st and 2nd and 5th and reverse. Any idea's on this problem and is it an easy fix??
Also there is a knocking sound coming from the drivers door, anything common?
Noticed a post mentioning probs when starting that it sound like a diesel. A couple of times it has sounded strange on starting but dissappears after a couple of seconds.
Also how do you guys find the fuel consumption it seems really thirsty when it starts from cold, are they all like this? unfortunately my drive to work is 2 mile so always cold and always changing gear.
Also noticed a bit of vapour coming from the exhaust even when it is warm right on the half way point of the temp gauge and occasionally it drops a tiny bit below this, is that normal??
Sorry to start on this forum with so many questions but i just dont want them to sting me in future. Otherwise i have had no error messages light up on the dash and it seems really well built so fingers crossed that it will serve us well,
thanks in advance for any replies, ryan
