2.0 JTS GT Gear/clutch nightmare
After many months of saving finally was able to purchase my dream car yesterday - a GT, horray!!! Took it for a test drive and all was well, no signs of any problems so handed over the cash and drove her home and thats when the nightmare began.....
Just before getting home (it was about a 20 mile drive) started to have trouble selecting gears, the gears would only go in if you hammered the clutch pedal right down to the floor and once the gear was selected there was a huge amount of play in the gear stick - it felt like it was in neutral rather than in gear!!
Tried to contact the seller but no answer, so I thought I'd leave it overnight and see if things would improve today but things just got worse.......dead battery!!! With the help of some jump leads made it to Halfords to buy replacement battery (£89.99!!!!!) but had the gear selection problem all the way, you actually have to press the clutch pedal down as hard as you can just to change gear.
So thinking a trip to the garage is needed tomorrow but wanted to know if anyone could give me a heads up on what I need replacing and how much it might cost?? The clutch pedal is sitting at the same height as the brake pedal but about the first three quarters of pushing it down offer no resistance, it's only right at the bottom when it feels like the pedal is actually doing anything.
Not a good start.....
