Engine Mounts. How much play?
I was investigataing the condition of my wishbones earlier as i have a hard knock on rough roads. Came to the conclusion that my drivers side upper wishbone might need replacing.
Anyway. I have never noticed any excessive vibration from the engine and whith the engine running with the bonnet open the engine doesnt seem to move much but that didn't stop me grabbing the mounts and giving them a shake:
The upper mount ot the top left of the engine has some movement if i "rotate" the rod. It looks like normal movement in the rubber but the engine side of the mount has slight perishing of the rubber. Is this normal and is any of this cause for concern.
More worrying is the left (drivers side) lower mount. It looks like a large "can" filled with rubber and a rod sticking out of the bottom. with no effort at all i can lift the engine up 1mm or 2 from this rod and bounce the engine a little. Is this normal?
For info, my suspect noises are a very hard knock from the front drivers side wheel when hitting more harsh bumps and sometimes a similar hard knock when changing gears in a "spirited" style.
