got my m.o.t on the 147 soon so knowing the brakes are a bit on the naff side i decided to change all discs and pads today. I have done this job countless times but nothing prepared me for the number of problems i encountered today.
1. Locating peg holding front drivers side brake disc on to the hub totally rounded. Fine i thought...hacksaw off, remove disc and remove rest of the the bolt with mole grips...Oh no!!!! bolt sheered in hub so had to drill out of hub and replace with a new bolt.
2. Front passangers side disc totally welded to the hub, spent half hour wacking it with a lump hammer and wouldnt budge...ended up having to use a nut and bolt wound through the caliper holder hole to force the disc off.
3. Rear passenger side caliper holder bolt rounded. angle grider out and new bolt plus disc welded to hub. Removed using same method as front disc.
4. Rear drivers side disc welded to hub. Removed using same method as above. Piston just wouldnt wind back into the caliper!!!!!!!!
Eventually got enough clearance after half hour of winding
Every single muscle in my body is aching but at least i have a cold one in my hand
and my brakes are good for another couple of years.
