I found that engine braking on a V6 is much stronger than on a TS where the engine revs very easily without much braking effect, but even on V6 its very smooth and easy to shift down. But I am used to blip the throttle as well.
Cars with large engines brake with engine much more than smaller ones. Even to the point that when on sliperly road engine braking / releasing clutch in lower gear with no throttle) can lock your wheels. Many manufacturers use MSR system to avoid this (Motor Schleppmoment Regelung) or (motor spin regulation/torque moment regulation).
