Whine from cambelt end of engine.
Sorry guys, another newbie question.
I have bought a second 156, it has high mileage ( 132000 ) but has a good service history, it has had the cambelt changed twice in its life the last time at 100k which was in 2006. In 2008 it had a new tensioner fitted for the cambelt??
Now to the point of this thread, there is a whine from the cambelt end of the engine, which rises in pitch as the revs rise.
I would normally attribute this to a tensioner that is tired or has been standing for some time and lost its grease.
However with this engine there is the balancer shaft with its attendant belt and tensioner, I have no experience of this and wondered if this noise was known to anyone.
I intend to replace the cambelt, balancer belt and related tensioners.
Sorry lads I bet this has come up a hundred times.
