Recently told by Marco at Autolusso my badge stuck out on my GTA and was wrong one. He said should be flush and recessed into chrome. Went home examined spare tail gate with badge attached, took badge of spare tailgate and removed it from its plastic backing carefully. What emerged was a thin badge that slotted straight into the front grille flush. Sadly it was not a great rear badge.
So on a return visit to autolusso purchased a new badge from Jamie on reception - didn't look to closely got home and spotted by looking at old badge sat on side - yep you guessed it - too fat same as old badge. Rang Autolusso Jamie convinced it was right one but it isn't and he will look next time i am in. So fix may well be carefully grind back grille and fit new badge, unless I buy a rear tailgate one and strip it down if the later ones do strip down. devil is in the detail.

Not the first time I've heard of this. I think Alfa had a different supplier of front grilles for a short time, they take a thin badge which is unavailable new, best thing to do is fit a 2nd hand chrome grille which takes the normal chunky type badge.

Well, it's taken a long time, but I think I may have stumbled across the answer to this thread at last!

Take a look:

Too late for me, I sold my 156 about two years ago - it probably still has a protruding front badge...

This was the post where I first raised the issue:
Just proves never to give up... I might buy a couple anyway just in case
