well the quick oil change in the 156 2.0 TS is turning out to be not such a quick job.... and not a cheap one either
car is not nice to jack up.... lets get some ramps.... $100 at supercheap (but they are pretty red and match the car
*hmmm needs fancy synthetic oil.... castrol edge sport 10w-60 $70at supercheap
*oil filter... got an aftermarket for $24ish
*all going well. put car on the ramps (which marked hubby's concrete
*undertray removed and degreased
*sump plug removed and oil drained (hmm came undone very easily... maybe a good thing... found out later it was not)
*oil drained happily... ewwww dirty!
*removed oil filter
*put on new oil filter
*put sump plug and washer back in and did up to just tight (hubby has a pet hate about over tightened sump plugs)
*filled with lovely clean expensive oil
*hubby noticed a puddle oil under the car next morning
so checked the plug to make sure it was ok. it was turning in the hole....stripped! the garage who serviced it before we got it must have just had the plug sitting in the right way to not leak... it's now leaving significant puddles of oil on the floor... thought we may have been able to leave it until next oil change but doesn't look that way...
now to either
*find a helicoil kit the right size (does anyone know of a good supplier?)
*re-tap the hole for a bigger plug
we figure if we helicoil it it will not have this problem again whereas re-tapping will still possibly go again (only if there are big monkeys swinging on the plug.....)
and then we can put more new oil in it.....
