I know there are a few of you out there! Please help or advise!!!
My 156 2.0TS Sele 01/Y is behaving very strangely. The actuator seems to be frazzled and indecisive. As an example, from cold, here is the chain of events.
Open door-Pump activates and is tip top and reaches pressure in less than 7 secs.
Key at MAR - all gears can be selected up and down in sequence with no hesitancy or whirring/grinding.
Start car up and no warning lights stay on.
Select 1st gear whilst foot on brake - engages 1st then starts to flash on display.
This is then followed by car selecting(and displaying) 3rd, then 1st repeatedly.
Depress throttle pedal and there is a lag before selecting 1st then car will move away.
Once on open road and lever or button change is used, the actuator unit goes into freeform jazz mode i.e. it follows no pattern and goes where it wants to, even giving conflicting display notification of the selected, and current gear!
The even more bizzare addition to this is that none of the above carry on occurs whilst car is in fully automated CITY mode.
I have replaced the battery (BOSCH Silver S5 005 63ah)
I have unplugged, contact cleaned and physically inspected all relays and sensors and connectors(under the bonnet and in the car)
I have been to my indie specialist who ran a recalib(plunger was a tad long)
Two FIAT EXAMINER EOL procedures. No fault codes on sele unit (just a fault on lambda 1)
Oil is in good order and regularly checked - Tutela always used.
I have not yet traced the connection to the dash display as the back light on the gear LCD is a liitle erratic although the numerals always display regardless of the orange light being on or off.
Please help as it is taking the enjoyment out of driving what is a great car!!(recent belts/ variator change was excellent improvement). And yes, I am about to get Alfadiag and cable!
