Hello people of great Alfa Romeo wisdom! I just signed up to here in desperation, as i am getting nowhere fast with my car. I've already spent best part of £1000 trying to sort it out & still at square 1, so was hoping you might be so kind as to help me out before i waste any more cash! Here's whats going on:
*Throwing mass clouds of black smoke out of the back & exhaust seems to be getting very hot indeed.
*Idles & runs like a dog at low revs, coughing & farting & jumping around & popping away all over the shop.
*Full throttle & over about 5000rpm, coughing & farting clears & appears ok, apart from still lots of smoke & injector light comes on.
*Cuts out on slowing to a stop.
It all started when my uncle borrowed it & it just cut out very suddenly on the motorway. It's ran like this ever since.
It's been to 2 garages now & i have had the MAF sensor replaced, Lambda sensor, plugs, had the ecu removed & checked over, etc etc. The garage that has it now said its coming up with MAF fault but i've had this done, & they also say (baring in mind i'm not very technically minded with engines) that they timed the injectors how long the opened for, & its about 15ms or something which apparently is alot more than it should be??
To me it seems like it's overfuelling like crazy, so the injector thing would probably explain that, but why?!?!
Also another guy said it could have jumped a tooth on the rear cam???
Any advice would be great as it's been going on for over 2 years now & i just want it back!!
