Alfa GT Trauma
I recently purchased a Red Alfa GT 3.2 V6 2005 model with 74000KM, body work is mint and interior is very clean, full service history.
A week after taking delivery, driving along the control cluster lights start flashing and all the warning msgs under the sun start flashing and then the car cuts out.... first thought Alternator.
Had the car towed back to the dealership they said they would have it sorted for me, week later car returns, as I get into the car and fire it up "Battery Charge Low" Flashes and the Cambelt is very noisy, so back to the Alfa electrician again, two weeks later New Cambelt put in and Alteranator refurbished, get the car back all seems fine.
About a week later on a Saturday Morning, driving along I hear the dreaded ''Beep Beep" as I slowly peer down to the control cluster I see "Brake bulb blown", pull into my nearest Midas and grab some replacement bulbs all sorted.
On the way home car drives fine, park the car watch some soccer, then about 4 in the afternoon, I jump into the car to go get some chow. Driving along at 50Kph just relaxing, I hear the dreaded "Beep Beep", once again im terrified to take a look....... what do I see "Motor Control System Failure", Fan @!#^@%#^tastic..... car drives fine until it gets to 3000rpm then Misfires.... the Bose radio goes full blast all by itself and the aircon backlight is gone, so straight home. park the car and next morning start it up and it misfires from the start and MCSF flashing.
So back to the dealership who agree to have it seen too, this time its goes to a Alfa Specialist, he takes the alternator out, says the bearings are shot and a couple of other bits need replacing etc, all which should have been taken care of by the first electrician.
A week later pick the car up, running beautifully. That evening pull up to a stop street and as I pull off and reach 3000rpm......... "Beep Beep"........ I get that sick twisted feeling in my stomach, look down and see "Motor Control System Failure".... at this point Im about to have a break down, mentally that is.... forgive the pun!
So this is where I am now...... I love the car when it drives. Having come from owning a Volkswagen with no trouble what so ever to Alfa. I feel very let down, the car is stunning to look at but I need a car that works... I do realise that this may have been compounded by the mechanics that never diagnosed the issues correctly in the first place. The dealership has provided a loan car to me and we have come to the following agreement.... the Alfa is either fixed properly once and for all, if not we will have a complete cancellation of the deal. As much as I love the car when it works... I cant take the trauma anymore. =(
