Well last Tuesday I replaced the antiroll bar and cured all the knocking noises etc. Today ie 11 days later we drive to Goodwood and back and the car has developed a new knocking noise that occurs when turning right at medium speeds or when the passenger side wheel hit's uneven road surfaces in a straight line.
Could it just be a knackered drop link or anyone have any other ideas? I checked the steering etc after refitting the subframe and all seemed fine
Gay? I'm positively homophobic!!
Anyway it turns out it was my own mistake and being one to share in the hope it helps others here is what I found..................
I took the wheel off and couldn't find anything wrong until I looked at the drop links, what I found was that on the passenger side lower link the spring clip on the gaiter was displaced and not gripping the rubber lip of the gaiter. I think what had happened was that the clip had been dislodged by my dismantling the roll bar. Then during the re-assembly I tightened the drop link nut with the clip between the face of the anti roll bar and the droplink mating face. 200 miles to Goodwood and the clip finally jumped out of position causing a small gap between the bar and droplink hence the banging. I've refitted the springclip to the gaiter, tightened everything up to thread factor 50 and it's cured. Nearly had the car on it's roof slaloming down the road to prove my findings worked!!!
