2.5 / 3.0 V6 Engine Temperature
I have read a few posts regarding the running temperatures of peoples V6s on here, although not sure if the problem I have could be a little different to others mentioned...
I had a recon' 3.0 V6 engine fitted to my 156 last year, I also had a new radiator fitted and to be honest I didn't really notice much difference in engine temperatures between the two - if I remeber there was a discrepency in the oil coolers being different on the 2.5 and 3.0, and I am pretty sure I am using a 2.5 oil cooler on my engine, which some argue that this will make the engine run hotter if used for hard road/track use - which I certainly don't use the car for!
Over the past few weeks I have noticed that the engine temperature (according to the gauge) is rising quite high - however, the fans do bring it back down to 90 degrees. In traffic, and if the car is at normal running temperature, the temperature will rise pretty quickly, and even when moving again at 30mph it does take a good few minutes for the temperature to drop back to 90 degrees.
I don't know if this is the hot weather we are having, but it does seem to be getting worse. This may also be related to the slight misfire I am getting on a cold engine. From my experience of owning a Delta HF Turbo, the coolant temperature sensor which sat on the thermostat housing was prone to failure, and this would cause the fuel mixture to fluctuate, causing a misfire, so maybe that is what it could be.
I am also noticing that the car is popping through the exhaust on over-run. It has got a full stainless steel exhuast system so this is bound to be more audible, although I can also smell fumes when the car is stationary, so I am pretty sure that the fuel mixture is out.
If the car is running a lean mixture, then surely this will increase engine temperatures? Maybe this is what is happening, I don't know, although I have hooked it up to AlfaDiag and I have no fault codes.
Apologies for mentioning so much stuff in one thread, although this may all be related, hence why I have mentioned it all - hope someone can help!
