Torn Rear Wheel Arch Carpeting

There's a tear in the carpeting that covers the inside of my rear wheel arch. There's isn't a hole yet but the material is torn. Should I panic and get it replaced? Or does it not do anything other than sound insulation?

Re: Torn Rear Wheel Arch Carpeting

I think this is a very common problem. I assume when travelling fast the wind pulls it against the tyre and it gets worn through.
Only one of mine is slightly worn but not torn, the other is fine.

On my friends car the carpet is worn through - I think he just put in a couple of self tappers in to hold it in place.

I don't know why Alfa put carpet and not plastic except to sound proof out all the stones and grit that gets thrown up.
