Yeah you shouldn't be put off by the fact its a Selespeed. The main problem is that most mechanics don't know how to deal with them, yet get a good mechanic that is willing to adhere to advice from the guys with experience that you'll find on this forum. After all, its just a standard gearbox/clutch with a robotic arm to change gear. Even my mechanic after working on mines for the first time was surprised at how uncomplex but clever the system is.
Also, most mechanics don't have the diagnostics to perform calibration routines/adjustments but as iainfm says get the cable and software on your laptop and bring this along with print outs with you when you need Selespeed work done. Of course, there'll always be the case that some mechanics will look at you when you do this and not be wiling to work with you but I'm sure you will find one that will.
Needless to say, anyone needing a good mechanic near where I live, give me a PM; I can thoroughly recommend him after he took advice from this forum, and did an excellent job replacing the gearbox/clutch assembly on my Selespeed.
