156 Selespeed - ECU intermittant fault
I have a 156 selespeed that is now ten years old and has developed an intermittant fault. I can go for a week without any problem then it happens three times in an hour! When driving in slow moving traffic, say 5 to 10 mph the engine will go to tick over and pressing the accelerator will not increase revs and you have no drive. By stopping the engine and re-starting the problem goes, until the next time. This has happened about 50 times over the last six months, has always been at low speeds and although embarassing at the time it has always restarted. The main dealer carried out examiner scan and came up with - 'control unit faulty (microprocessor 2) - intermittant. Carried out error deletion and tested - ok. Customer to monitor, if fault returns will require new ECU (£933).'
It did return on the way home from the dealer! but I can't afford new ECU at that price.
Can the ECU be repaired, if so are there any specialists I should contact?
Any help and advice welcome
