GT service computer

I was out looking at buying a used GT 1.9 diesel with some mileage on it (140,000km or ~87,000miles) without a service booklet filled out (a bit of a red flag, but the price leaves room for some repairs) and I flipped through the onboard computer which says "service 62,000km" (~38,500miles).

Now this made me a bit suspicious and I decided to check-in with you guys whether the computer says distance to next service (as my previous car did) or whether it's distance from last service? After searching the forums I also notice that the computer doesn't seem to, in all cases, be a perfect indicator anyway (people reporting it just stays at 0)

The concern I have is obviously if it's distance to next service... would the mileage have been fiddled with? If it's the other case it could have been self-serviced and I don't care that much (going to have belt, waterpump, etc. replaced on day 1 given lack of history regardless).

The sevice distance can be changed (or forgotton!) manually so I wouldn't take what that said as the truth

It's an eyes and ears job really, you'll have to go over the car very thoroughly and make sure you're happy. As you say, no service history starts the alarm bells ringing....
