You'll hear a lot of whinging on here about aftermarket HIDs, but I have a set of H7R fitted to my car, 4300K so not too blue, and actually brighter than 6000K etc (the lower the Kelvin, the brighter the light, the higher the Kelvin, the bluer the light).
The GTA conversion is removing the inner chrome mask and painting it satin/matte black to mimic that of the 156 GTA. It also helps to reduce some light scatter that the original chrome creates.
As I say, I have aftermarket HIDs and GTA style lights, and my beam pattern is fine - no glare etc, and a lot clearer than the standard Halogens.
As for sidelights, get some SMD LEDs in H6W fitment (plenty on eBay).
