My timing belt stripped some teeth last Oct 2009 and my car has been in the garage ever since. I had the engine totally rebuild starting with the head, new valves, seals everything including variator also new big end bearings.
I got the car back after about a month and during the 1500 mile running in period i used around 6 litres of oil.
I took the car back and the garage stripped the engine again and i was told i needed new pistons a brought some +0.4 oversized pistons from alfa dealer (cost a fortune).
Anyway got the car back again after about 4 months. i had the car on the road for a week when there was a big loss in power so i got a tow truck back to the garage were we dicovered that the timing had slipped (How ?)
This was fixed but there was also a noise coming from the engine at around 2.5 - 3.5 rpm. This has been there since the rebuild but i was told to ignore it.
Anyway i told the garage that i was not happy with the noise so thay said they would look into it, i was told that the noise was the new pistons nipping the valves, so the garage has now modified the pistons to stop them nipping. (is this what you should do?).
However the engine noise is still there around 2.5 - 3.5 rpm. now i am being told that i should just drive the car and basically see what happens?
My question is what is the noise i have been told that everything has been check and is ok even the crank ( i read this could be a source of the problem on this site)
I dont want to take the car back if it's going to do more damage to the engine as everything that could be replacd has been replaced already.
It's now june so i have been without a car really since Oct 2009 im really starting to loose the plot but i dont know what to do next. Advise needed!!
