Waxoyl or alternatives

I've noticed a few spots of surface rust on the underside of my 156, so want to give this some attention now. I'd be interested in peoples opinions on which product to use and how to apply.

Myself I was thinking, rub down the surface rust using a wire brush then apply waxoyl (or similar) to the offending areas.

Is waxoyl the best to use, or is Dinitrol (4941) better? Are there different "flavours" of waxoyl - I have seen the Hammerite branded stuff mostly.
Are there differences between the clear and black stuff?
Brush on or aerosol spray?
Do I need to apply any rust remover before the waxoyl or is that a part of the product as well as protection?
Where to buy? Halfords or motor factors? On-line?

Note I am not looking to cover the whole underside, just the few areas that are affected. It seems to be where the protection has peeled off / scraped off.

Many thanks.

On my 145 I cleaned off all the loose stuff with a rotary wire brush, painted the exposed areas with Hammerite No 1 Rust Beater & then gave it a liberal coating of Hammerite Under Body Seal. The Under Body Seal contains Waxoyl & doesn't dry out completely so it shouldn't lose adhesion with age.

Don't know how effective all that was, as I sold the car six months later!
