147 2.0 TS with loss of power
Hi guys, I'm wobdering if you have any ideas.
I've had a problem recently with my 147. Personallly, I've always thought is was not not great on power, but driving on the motorway last week, it would not go over approx 4200rpm / 80mph (in 5th), there was a funny noise too, but it hard to identify if this noise was due to the wind at this speed, it was kinda like an iregular tap. No other discernable problems.
At this rev range i thought the variator maybe at fault, and change this at the weekend, with new cam belt and tensioners, and balancer belt etc. car started first time, and engine semmed fine...
so i took it for it's first proper run this morn, to see what would happen at the 4000/4200 rpm range. same thing (although, it made me less confident that i'd heard any noise, and that iwas imagining it/wind was causing it). the car would not go above 80, foot to the floor. it isn't a juddery feeling, the car sits at 80 smooth.
so i thought ok, just cruise at 70, dropped speed, put cruise control on, lifted my foot off and the revs just kept falling.......!!! puled to the hard shoulder and awaited rescue.
The car will start now, but it seem to down one or two cylinders?? lumpy running.
I've tried to pull back the cam belt cover as best as poss, and it appears tight. (and i did do around 30 miles town/'average A road' driving on the new belt.
i was thinking trying the ECU/throttle reset due the cruise control aspect (but am unsure how it'll idle for 15mins)..... and check ignition system??
any ideas?? (i have tried searching the forum first)
