Glow Plug Error and Misfire / Injector problem
Anybody able to confirm whether two faults I got yesterday could be related? From my (rather limited) understanding, they shouldn't be, but any advice on the combination of errors would be appreciated!
On starting my 147 m-jet I got a message "error glow plugs" (never seen it before), but she started fine. I've seen some other threads on this error in here, and it doesn't seem a big deal. And as far as I understand, any problem with the glow plugs would only possibly affect starting - once she's running, they are no longer required, right?
Soon after getting going (I just setting of from Edinburgh to Manchester, so really didn't need any issues!) I thought I could detect a bit of a judder / misfire, and after about ten miles this became more noticeable to the point of being impossible to ignore, at which moment my old friend "Motor Control System Failure" appeared. With little option but to get home, I limped my way back, with a nasty judder, obvious misfire, and an incosistent lack of power.
Now, I say "my old friend", because around 9 months ago exactly the same happened (not the glow plug part, just the misfire and MCS failure), and I had to shell out about £900 getting one injector replaced and two others re-furbished.
So, I would guess that this would be down to either that job not having been done properly, or the 4th injector now packing in - though if the latter, should it not have been obvious to the mechanics that it needed re-furbing with the others 9 months ago?
So, can there be any link between the two error messages? And if not, should the work done last year have ensured this didn't happen again so soon? Have I just been very unlucky?
